Interactive Teaching Clock

Drag the long hand and the short hand follows, just like a real geared clock. The numbers and words change as you go.

Five-minute warm-ups

  1. Set and say. Set a time and have the class read it together. Press Say it to check.
  2. Hide the words. Tick Hide the words, set a time, and have children write it on whiteboards before you reveal it.
  3. Make it move. Press + 5 min while the class counts in fives. Stop at any number and ask what time it is.
  4. Watch the short hand. Wind from 3:00 to 4:00 slowly and watch the short hand creep. This is the best fix for reading 2:50 as 3:50.

Questions

Why does the short hand move on its own?

On a real clock the hands are geared together: the short hand moves as the long hand turns. Many classroom clocks let you move the hands separately, which lets children make times that can't exist.

Can I use it on an interactive whiteboard?

Yes. It works with a mouse, a finger or a pen, and it fills the page on a big screen.

Can it show single minutes?

Yes. Untick Snap to 5 minutes and the long hand moves one minute at a time.

Then let them play

When the class is ready, play the game or print a read-the-clock sheet.
